ICMTA Teachers' Gathering 2018
Edinburgh, UK: 19th - 22nd June 2018
EVERYTHING IS ON THE DANCE FLOOR
We are delighted to invite you to Edinburgh for our 2018 Teacher Gathering. Come and join us as we gather to learn from and with one another. Our annual event is renowned for creating a warm and welcoming opportunity to meet as old and new friends and to inspire and nourish the work we do.
This year’s theme is ‘Everything Is On The Dance Floor’. Our discussions within the Teacher Gathering Circle kept returning to the uncertainty, suffering and violence that is shaking our precious world at the moment, and what that means on our dance floors, and what it asks of our teaching.
How do we keep including it all? How do we, individually and collectively, hold what is unbearable? How can we not only invite everything into the medicine of the practice, but also transform it, so that we send something out that is different? How do we trust and align to the simplicity of the dance, when so much ‘complicated’ abounds? This is a rich line of enquiry: How can our work send the dance back out into the individual and collective world - supporting us to live life as fully and inclusively as possible?
We would like to offer this year’s Gathering through the prism of some of these questions. We have some wonderful Guest Teachers, bringing sessions that will open and deepen the theme.
As always, our Gathering is a celebration of our diverse community of teachers and teaching modalities. There will be good food, time to kick back and catch up, time to breathe and be nourished by one another’s presence and wisdom. Gathering as a community of teachers is our most distilled resource: we are our own best medicine!
There will be:
Lots of dancing
Input from specialist teachers
Tea, chats, hugs and laughter

Cathy has been working in embodied movement practice for many years, with a background in theatre, writing and shamanic practice. A member of Northern Drum Shamanic Center, she has also studied and trained with Gabrielle Roth, founder of the 5 Rhythms®, working and teaching extensively in the field for over 16 years. She is a founding member of Open Floor International and works extensively in Europe and the UK, loving this ongoing exploration of how and what it is to be alive in these moving, humans bodies of ours…
For more details about her work and background see www.humans-being.co.uk and www.openfloor.org
Having explored conscious dance for over 18 years, I offer classes and transformational workshops internationally. I am passionate about dancing deeply, embodied inquiry and exploring what facilitates lasting transformation.
I am a 5 Rhythms teacher (Waves and Heartbeat Level), a staff member, mentor and faculty teacher with The School of Movement Medicine, a budding Open Floor teacher and have studied extensively in Amerta Movement with Suprapto Suryodarmo. I have also been a body based psychotherapist, supervisor, facilitator and trainer for 25 years and currently work as Transformational Coach.
My work is inspired by the many colours of conscious dance, mindfulness and other meditation practices, embodied process oriented psychotherapies, Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects, Thomas Hubl, all the folks I have worked with over the years and many other teachers besides.

I was the first accedited 5Rhythms teacher in Ireland, training with Gabrielle Roth in 1997/98. In 2008, I became passionate about the growing field of neurosciences and since then I have brought my understanding of how human beings function on a neurological level and how change is possible to my movement work. To this combination, I also bring mindfulness self-compassion. In 2014 I extended my repertory of practices to include the Open Floor Movement Meditation practice. The vast majority of my teaching life has been spent in Ireland. Recently I have branched out to teach in Paris, Holland and Switzerland.
